Earn College Credit While in High School
- AP Classes - Take classes at WAHS at the college level. Check with each college to see the score you need to get on the AP exam to earn credit.
- Dual Enrollment classes - Classes taught at WAHS by teachers that also meet the requirements for being a college professor. Students earn both high school credit and college credit for free! Students usually qualify with 390 on Verbal and 500 on Math PSAT test. You may also take the VPT Placement test at WAHS with Ms. Bertrand or at PVCC. Other measures may also work.
- CATEC classes - most classes at CATEC are dual enrolled and allow you to earn college credit.
Testing for College
- SAT vs. ACT. Seek your counselor's advice.
- Accommodations for testing. Apply far in advance if you need them from College Board or ACT.
College is Different from High School for students with disabilities
- For all students, the main difference is that you have more time and more control over your time and that is a big adjustment for all.
- Students who had an IEP in high school need to find out what steps their future college wants them to take. Each college has a department to assist students with disabilities and will tell you exactly what you need. More information on the Education page.
- What you can do in high school to help you prepare:
- How does your disability affect your learning?
- What accommodations work for you and why?
- Prepare a letter to share with professors or employers explaining the above.
- Testing, paperwork... see Education page.
